Background

CLASP (Correlating Luggage and Specific Passengers) is a project funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate through ALERT to automatically track passengers and their divested items at the checkpoint using video analytics. Research groups were provided videos of passengers and divested objects moving through a mock checkpoint constructed at Northeastern University. For approximately 12 months, the researchers within these groups have been developing automated tracking algorithms (ATA) and will be presenting their algorithms at the review. In addition, a review of their algorithms will be presented by experts in the field. The applicability of the ATA algorithms to TSA checkpoints and steps for continuing their research will also be discussed.

AATR (Adaptive Automatic Target Recognition (ATR)) is a project funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate through ALERT to develop ATR algorithms for CT-based Explosive Detection Systems (EDS) that automatically adapt to new threats when scanning checked and carry on bags. This technology aims to automatically update the list of detected threats based on current intelligence information within less than 24 hours of detection. Research groups created these algorithms based on medically scanned objects. For approximately 12 months, the researchers within these groups have been developing AATR algorithms and will be presenting their algorithms at the review. In addition, a review of their algorithms will be presented by experts in the field. The applicability of the AATR algorithms to certified explosives detection equipment and steps for continuing their research will also be discussed.

The program reviews are convened by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Center of Excellence (COE) for Awareness and Localization of Explosives-Related Threats (ALERT) at Northeastern University. ALERT is supported by the DHS Science and Technology Directorate through the DHS Office of University Programs.
