Doctoral Candidate

Joseph P. Robinson is a 2nd year PhD candidate studying computer engineering at North- eastern University (NEU), Boston, MA. His current research is focused on applied machine vision, with emphasis on faces, deep learning, multimodal problems, and database development. Joseph led SMILE lab in their TRECVid debut (MED 2015). Also, he designed difference tools and managed teams to build several image & video databases– most noteworthy, the Families In the Wild (FIW) dataset. Joseph received his B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at NEU in 2014, during which time he 1st place in a ECE remote control design contest his 1st year; 1st place in department-wide senior capstone competition his last; and several awards in between. Joseph was active in NEU’s IEEE student chapter, where he held every officer position up to president his senior year. Joseph also was a Relations Officer for IEEE R1 Student Activities Committee Region. He experienced 2 NSF funded REUs (2010 & 2011), and 26 month co-ops at Analogic Corporation & Raytheon BBN Technology. He worked as a grad student intern for MIT-LL (Summer 2014) and at Systems & Technology Research (STR) (Summer 2016).

Download Resume Luis A. Pérez Almodóvar
Masters Candidate

Luis Pérez-Almodóvar is currently a semester away from finishing his Master’s Degree in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus. His thesis consists of developing new methods for detection of High Energetic Materials (HEM). Luis’s project is about coupling Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) with Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) to separate mixtures, detect and quantify different types of explosives. Also, he uses Chemometrics Multivariate Analysis to understand the model of the target system. Among his future goals is to pursue a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, focusing on the Forensic Area. He has had internships and research experiences where he worked on to building his skills. Over the past few years, he has been strengthening these skills through his work. He is looking for a position that will allow him to use his research and analysis skills and help him grow as a scientist.
