ALERT Researcher Awarded Grant for Breast Cancer Detection Innovation

ALERT bulk sensors and sensor systems researcher, Professor Jose Martinez-Lorenzo, has been named an Innovation Commercialization Seed Fund winner by the Massachusetts Technology Transfer Center (MTTC). Professor Martinez-Lorenzo is one of nine individuals to each receive $40,000, two other winners are also based at Northeastern University. The awarded parties were announced earlier this month.

MTTC is a Boston-based organization that helps inventors to commercialize technologies and entrepreneurs to start companies. In total, $360,000 has been granted to innovative projects throughout the state. The Innovation Commercialization Seed Fund is supported by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and issues grants to researcher who have demonstrated the commercial viability of their technologies.

Professor Martinez-Lorenzo’s received this grant for his work on “Preliminary Clinical Data Collection of a Fused Multimodal DBT, NRI and Ultrasonic System for Early Breast Cancer Detection”. His research has long focused on methods of multimodal breast cancer detection, including the use of X-ray and thermoacoustic-tomography.
