Fees: There will be a $100 registration fee to defray the costs of hosting the in-person event and supporting the virtual event. The registration fee only for those people in industry who are not members of Northeastern’s Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) and are not presenting.

The fifth workshop on Advanced Developments Encompassing Processes and Technologies for Customs and Border Protection (CBP-ADEPT-05) will be held July 25 and July 26,2023 , in person at Northeastern University in Boston. The workshop will focus on the development and deployment of algorithms for enhancing the interdiction of contraband as follows.

  • Algorithms: automatic threat and anomaly recognition, operator assist, risk assessment, resource allocation, fused systems
  • Contraband: narcotics, agriculture/biologic, tariff and intellectual property violations, human trafficking
  • Ports of entry: seaport, land crossings, incoming aviation, international mail, expressed consignment
  • Conveyances: ships, cars, trucks, airplanes, people
  • Sensors: x-ray, trace, video, stand-off, optical

In addition, there will presentations in the following areas.

  • CBP requirements, funding, deployment, testing, quality assurance
  • Access to training and test data
  • Case studies: command center development and integration, third party ATR, open platforms
  • Stakeholder perspectives (CBP, DHS, operators of ports of entry, industry, third parties)
  • Emerging technologies

The workshop is convened by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Emeritus Center of Excellence (COE) for Awareness and Localization of Explosives-Related Threats (ALERT) at Northeastern University.
