Partnering with the TSA
Currently, the ALERT has teamed with Mass General Hospital, Siemens Corporate Research and the Cleveland TSA embarking on a project that addresses two key problems that TSA agent face on a daily basis.
Involving three of the academic partners (NU, BU, RPI), industry and government collaborators, this project focuses on video analysis that address the “reverse flow within the exit lane” and “tag and track of a person-of-interest” problems.
Both problems were brought to ALERT attention through extensive dialog with TSA management and the support of DHS S&T. Automating the video analytics in support of TSA screeners is expected to minimize costly airport terminal shutdown that have economic and logistics consequences. In addition, having the tools to minimize the strain of viewing multiple monitors simultaneously, should help to increase worker productivity. These projects are prime examples of DHS’s new strategy of “Engage to Excel”.
